đ Cracking Open Possibility: The Story of Kiwifruit Coaching
Cowritten by: Charlie (he/they), Founder of Everywhere Is Queer + Hazel Bloom (she/her), Founder of Kiwifruit Coaching
In a world where queer folks are often forced to navigate systems not built for us, Hazel Bloom (she/her) decided to build her own. Sheâs the vibrant, determined force behind Kiwifruit Coachingâa radically compassionate space where queer and neurodivergent people are invited to come as they are, shed the weight of societal expectations, and start walking toward a life that feels like their own.
Hazelâs journey to creating Kiwifruit Coaching didnât start with a business planâit started with a deep need. When she first realized she was transgender, Hazel found herself completely adrift. The resources she needed? Scarce. The therapists who actually got it? Even scarcer. So she did what many queer people have had to do: she carved out her own path. What began as a search for identity quickly became a mission to ensure no one else had to feel as lost or unsupported as she once did.
And she didnât just talk about changeâshe embodied it. From nervously walking around Capital City Pride in Olympia, WA with no visible transfeminine representation in sight, to hosting her own booth just a year later, Hazel made sure that someone like her was seen, heard, and celebrated. With her wife Hannah by her side (and three cats and a dog at home!), she launched Kiwifruit Coaching in the thick of the 2024 election seasonâturning despair into action and community care.
Rather than pursue a path riddled with debt and colonial gatekeeping, Hazel trained through The Academy of Modern Applied Psychology and grounded her practice in lived experience. Her style blends life coaching with a deeply intuitive, trauma-aware approachâwhat one client lovingly called âanti-therapy therapy.â Itâs not about sterile diagnoses or clinical detachment. Itâs about human-to-human connection, storytelling, and breaking through stuck narratives together.
đ« Coaching Rooted in Queerness & Care
The soul of Kiwifruit Coaching is authenticity. Hazelâs work is built on helping folks discover what they want out of lifeânot what society demands of them. She works especially well with queer, neurodivergent clients navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, Autism, OCD, suicidal ideation, and family estrangementâbecause sheâs lived through all of it herself.
She doesnât just allow you to show up fullyâshe expects it. No need to translate your identity, no need to overexplain your gender. Whether youâre trying to unmask, unpack trauma, or unlearn the bullshit youâve been handed, Hazel is right there with you, matching your pace, honoring your process.
Her pricing reflects her mission, too. Sessions are capped at $80/hr, and she offers pro bono and sliding scale options because, as she puts it, âthe people who canât afford support are often the ones who need it the most.â Her work is values-driven, not profit-driven. In fact, itâs run more like a grassroots collective than a business.
And now, thanks to a well-deserved GSBA Community Reinvestment Project Grant, Hazel is expanding her reach while staying rooted in accessibility, mutual aid, and community support.
đŹ Building Community, One Queer at a Time
Hazelâs coaching practice isnât limited by geography. As an online Queer Life Coach, sheâs built a space thatâs open to anyone, anywhere. Her support groups, events, and Discord community (Queer Peers) are growing steadily, creating digital refuges for people whoâve long felt like outsiders.
Inclusivity isnât a buzzword at Kiwifruit Coachingâitâs a lifeline. Hazel works with clients across the 2SLGBTQIA+ spectrum, especially those navigating early transition, non-binary identities, and late-blooming realizations. She knows what it feels like to fight to be called they/them, to try and explain your worth to a system that doesnât see it, and to crack your own egg in your own time.
Oh, and did we mention she and Hannah made and gave out nearly 400 handmade Pride Flag Friendship Keychains at Pride this year? Thatâs the kind of grassroots joy that defines everything Hazel does.
đ§ A Few Steps Ahead, Never Above
Hazel doesnât pretend to have it all figured outâbut sheâs fiercely committed to being a few steps ahead on the trail, clearing the path for others. She left a toxic job at a credit union where she faced constant misgendering, cashed out her 401k, and bet on herself. And sheâs been proving herself right ever since.
Her advice for other queer folks dreaming of starting their own thing?
"Stop waiting for permission. Make your own opportunities. Be yourself loudly and unapologeticallyâthe right people will find you. If you let fear run the show, everything becomes generic. Let your weird light shine.â
đ Queer Joy = Resistance
To Hazel, queer joy is radical. Itâs resistance in action. Itâs helping someone love themselves in a world that tells them not to. Itâs making art. Creating community. Showing up, even when itâs hard. Itâs growing into the version of yourself you never thought possibleâand seeing that reflected in the eyes of others who believe in you.
Queer joy is Hazelâs daily mission. Itâs in every coaching session. Every free support group. Every handmade keychain. Every support group circle where a lonely person finally feels seen.
